In a back issue of the
New York Times, I read an article about ACL tears and how a new binding called the "
KneeBinding" may help decrease your risk for ACL tears. According to the "Times", ..."the number of skiing-related A.C.L. injuries annually is estimated at 20,000 and may cost Americans up to $250 million a year." That's a lot of physical and pocketbook pain! According to the
KneeBinding website, 'Ordinary bindings are "two-dimensional," allowing a skier's foot to twist out sideways at the toe, or to pull up and forward at the heel...KneeBinding ski bindings provide a third dimension - a "PureLateral" heel release that specifically detects these combined forces and allows a skier's heel to twist out sideways just before such an ACL injury can occur..." They retail for about 500 bucks. Is it worth it? Not sure...ill try and get my hands on some this season and let you know how they feel to ski with. If anyone's tried these drop us a line and let us know what you thought! Stay Fit Skiing! Andrew Hooge, CSCS, CES ahooge@fitskiing.com
