Lying Hip Stretch

Equipment Needed

Yoga Strap or Towel

Starting Position

Lying on a the floor.

Procedure

  1. Wrap the yoga strap or towel around the base of your foot.
  2. Lift the leg into the air and straighten it.
  3. Holding the yoga strap in the opposite hand, pull the leg across to the opposite side of the body and down towards the floor
  4. When you feel "moderate discomfort" in the hip muscles hold for the suggested amount of time.

Coaching Keys

  • Extend the arm that is not holding the yoga strap out to the side for an added stretch.
  • As you feel the stretch release, straighten the leg a little more.
  • Keep a very slight bend to your knee.

You Should Feel it...

In your hips and lower back.

Exercise Purpose

Improves hip flexibility and helps prevent ski related injuries.
