Lateral Step Up

Equipment Needed

Box or Step

Starting Position

Standing next to a step or box.

Procedure

  1. Set the closest foot on the box.
  2. Lift yourself until both feet are on the box.
  3. Slowly step down until the outside leg is on the ground. (One leg should still be on the box.)
  4. Repeat for the suggested number of repetitions.
  5. Repeat with the opposite leg.

Coaching Keys

  • Push the heel of the top foot down on the box.
  • To develop more power, move quickly, forcefully pushing off the outside leg.
  • Don’t round the back.
  • Don’t lean forward.
  • Do not let the knee move inward.

You Should Feel it...

In your glutes, thighs and abdominals

Exercise Purpose

Improves the ability to turn the ski quickly and forcefully.
